About the places -

Bidar Fort :: The Bidar fort is a specimen of the Persian architectural style having 1.21 km in length and 0.80 km in breadth, with a quadrangular layout. Surrounded by three miles long walls and comprising 37 bastions, it is surrounded by a triple moat.

There are seven gates in the fort. The dominant main gate exhibits Persian style architecture. The Gumbad Darwaza depicts arches with stilted size, also in Persian style. The Sherza Darwaza, the second gate of entry depicts two images of tigers carved on its fascia. The other gates are the Fateh Gate on the south, Talghat Gate in the east, Delhi Gate and Mandu Gate. The prominent bastion at the entry is known as the Munda Burj with guns positioned on it.

Within the fort complex, there is an old city, with monuments and structures from Bahamian era. Among these monuments, Gagan Mahal, Rangin Mahal and Tarkash Mahal are most popular. Jami Masjid and Solah Khamba Masjid are the two notable mosques constructed within the fort.

The inner section of the fort behind Solah Khamba Mosque has few wonderful monuments like Diwan-i-Am (also known as Jali Mahal) was a Public Audience hall built by Bahamani Sultans in 14th-15th centuries. It is currently in ruins. The Jalis can be still in the upper windows of the structure.

Beside the Diwan-i-Am is a wonderful structure known as Diwan-i-Khass also called Takht Mahal or Throne Palace. It was built by Bahamani Sultan Ahmad Shah between 1422-1436. This is the place where coronation of several Bahamani and Barid Shahi sultans was taken place. The palace used to be adorned with beautifully colored tiles and stone carvings part of which can be still seen on the arches. This structure is closed for public and the outer sections can be seen from outside.

Behind Diwan-i-Khass, an old temple known as Valkoti Bhavani temple exists along with few settlements.

.

Basavakalyan Fort: is considered to be one of the oldest and most imposing forts in South India. It was built by King Nalaraja in the 10th century. Basavakalyan, earlier known as Kalyani, was the royal capital of the Western Chalukyan

The fort is strategically built as a defensive structure, with inter-connecting boulders scattered on the hills with strong fort walls. The fort has seven gates, five of them are in perfect condition. At the entrance there is a solid arch with balconies which can be accessed by steps on both sides. The main gate to the citadel is known as the Akhand Darwaza and has been built with four red stone slabs. There is a temple adjoining the Rajmahal palace and a square pond in front of the temple, towards the west side of the temple is the Rani Mahal.

The majority of the places in the fort are now in ruins, the only maintained structure that can be found here is the mosque as an Urdu school is running here. The museum adjoining the fort has a number of Jain idols which belong to the 10th and 11th centuries. There is a large cannon placed at one of the bastions of the fort.

About the places -

Mandu, the fortress of joy, also known as Mandavgadh, rises 634 meters high in the Vindhya Range and is enclosed in battlements 37 km long. With-in this well-defended plateau is wealth of palaces, pleasure pavilions, mansions, tombs and mosques.

The hill range is endowed with a very attractive natural scenery, which is at its best during the rainy season, when on all sides, it is clothed in green with a number of brooks and torrents, rushing down into the ravine winding about its sides below. The beauty of which is further enhanced by about a dozen lakes and ponds interspersed on its top.

Each of Mandu’s structures is an architectural gem and the monuments were raised in the period of hardly 125 years, between 1401 A.D to 1526 A.D; some are out standing like massive Massive Jami Massjid and Hoshang Shah’s tomb, which provided inspiration for the master builders of the Magnificent Taj Mahal centuries later.

Maheshwar was a glorious city at the dawn of Indian civilization when it was ‘Mahishmati'; capital of king Kartivarjun. This temple town on the banks of the river Narmada finds mention in the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Revived to its ancient position of importance by the Holkar queen Rani Ahilyabai of Indore. Maheshwar’s temples and mighty fort-complex stand in quiet beauty, mirrored in the river below.

We @ शिखर वेध have planned a Tour to Kaas Plateau Valley of Flowers – Sajjangad – Thosegar Waterfall & Kalyangad Fort in Satara region

.
Hope 2 cu on trip – trek with us ;-)

.
Brief Introduction about Kaas Valley / Sajjangad / Thosegar / Kalyangad / Bara Motechi Vihir @ Limb :

Height: 3300 ft /3350 ft / 3500 ft / 3490ft /

Grade: simple but Exciting

Time: ~ Max. 0.5 / 0.75 mins from base villages

Location: Satara region
.
KAAS PLATEAU: A wonderful outing to explore the colourful world of flowers … valley of flowers in Maharashtra  where hundreds of varieties of wild flowers of all colours which blooms in Mid August – Sept end (Da Best Time) … In monsoon the whole area transforms into an unbelievable carpets of flowers like yellow carpets of Smithia and Sonki flowers, Pink carpets of Balsam, Purple carpets of Karvi etc. … These carpets change colors almost every week depending on the dominant flowers during that time.

SAJJANGAD: Samarth Ramdas lived for long time @ Sajjangad, a small hillock near Satara. He breathed his last here and devotees worship his mausoleum here. This is an important centre of worship for the Ramdasi sect. Ramdas swami remains an inspiration for the technique he developed in infusing Nationalism and Dharmic devotion among ordinary people across the country by his concept of Hanuman temple, akhaada and a Paathashaalain every village. His emphasis on Rashtra chintana along with spiritualsadhana is more relevant today than it was anytime before.

THOSEGAR Waterfall: Thoseghar is very famous for it’s high Waterfalls. one of which is around 500 meters tall. Thoseghar is a wonderful place for nature lovers. These Waterfalls are very attractive and creates a loud noise in the calm nature.

KALYANGAD: is also known as Nandgiri fort. This fort was built by king Bhoj-II of Shilahar dynasty as mentioned in the copper plate inscription found in Satara. This fort appears to be built in between 1178 to 1209. It appears from many copper plate inscriptions of Shilahar kings that they gave many donations to Jain people. It has been proved that this fort is built by Shilahar Kings, as many statues of Lord Parshvanath are found in the cave on Kalyangad. In 1673 Shivaji Maharaj conquered Satara and surrounding regions. Kalyangad became a part of his territory. After Shivaji, the administration of Kalyangad went into the hands of Pratinidhis (representatives). Later, conflicts arose between Peshvas and Pratinidhis. The fort was taken over by Peshwa. In 1818 general Prisler brought this fort under British control.
