Dear All,

We @ SHIKHAR VEDH, invite you for a weekend trip to Mandavgad (Mandu) the fortress of joy and a glorious city of Maheshwar situated on the banks of Narmada, Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa Samadhi @ Raverkhedi And Mahakal Jyotirling @ Ujjain

About the places -

Mandu, the fortress of joy, also known as Mandavgadh, rises 634 meters high in the Vindhya Range and is enclosed in battlements 37 km long. With-in this well-defended plateau is wealth of palaces, pleasure pavilions, mansions, tombs and mosques.

The hill range is endowed with a very attractive natural scenery, which is at its best during the rainy season, when on all sides, it is clothed in green with a number of brooks and torrents, rushing down into the ravine winding about its sides below. The beauty of which is further enhanced by about a dozen lakes and ponds interspersed on its top.

Each of Mandu’s structures is an architectural gem and the monuments were raised in the period of hardly 125 years, between 1401 A.D to 1526 A.D; some are out standing like massive Massive Jami Massjid and Hoshang Shah’s tomb, which provided inspiration for the master builders of the Magnificent Taj Mahal centuries later.

Maheshwar was a glorious city at the dawn of Indian civilization when it was ‘Mahishmati'; capital of king Kartivarjun. This temple town on the banks of the river Narmada finds mention in the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Revived to its ancient position of importance by the Holkar queen Rani Ahilyabai of Indore. Maheshwar’s temples and mighty fort-complex stand in quiet beauty, mirrored in the river below.

Introduction:
Kedarnath has been a pilgrimage centre since ancient times. It is not certain who constructed the original Kedarnath temple and when. A mythological account ascribes the temple’s construction to the legendary Pandava brothers mentioned in the Mahabharata. However, the Mahabharata does not mention any place called Kedarnath. One of the earliest references to Kedarnath occurs in the Skanda Purana (c. 7th-8th century), which names Kedara (Kedarnath) as the place where Shiva released the holy waters of Ganga from his matted hair, resulting in the formation of the Ganges river.

About the places -

Bidar Fort :: The Bidar fort is a specimen of the Persian architectural style having 1.21 km in length and 0.80 km in breadth, with a quadrangular layout. Surrounded by three miles long walls and comprising 37 bastions, it is surrounded by a triple moat.

There are seven gates in the fort. The dominant main gate exhibits Persian style architecture. The Gumbad Darwaza depicts arches with stilted size, also in Persian style. The Sherza Darwaza, the second gate of entry depicts two images of tigers carved on its fascia. The other gates are the Fateh Gate on the south, Talghat Gate in the east, Delhi Gate and Mandu Gate. The prominent bastion at the entry is known as the Munda Burj with guns positioned on it.

Within the fort complex, there is an old city, with monuments and structures from Bahamian era. Among these monuments, Gagan Mahal, Rangin Mahal and Tarkash Mahal are most popular. Jami Masjid and Solah Khamba Masjid are the two notable mosques constructed within the fort.

The inner section of the fort behind Solah Khamba Mosque has few wonderful monuments like Diwan-i-Am (also known as Jali Mahal) was a Public Audience hall built by Bahamani Sultans in 14th-15th centuries. It is currently in ruins. The Jalis can be still in the upper windows of the structure.

Beside the Diwan-i-Am is a wonderful structure known as Diwan-i-Khass also called Takht Mahal or Throne Palace. It was built by Bahamani Sultan Ahmad Shah between 1422-1436. This is the place where coronation of several Bahamani and Barid Shahi sultans was taken place. The palace used to be adorned with beautifully colored tiles and stone carvings part of which can be still seen on the arches. This structure is closed for public and the outer sections can be seen from outside.

Behind Diwan-i-Khass, an old temple known as Valkoti Bhavani temple exists along with few settlements.

.

Basavakalyan Fort: is considered to be one of the oldest and most imposing forts in South India. It was built by King Nalaraja in the 10th century. Basavakalyan, earlier known as Kalyani, was the royal capital of the Western Chalukyan

The fort is strategically built as a defensive structure, with inter-connecting boulders scattered on the hills with strong fort walls. The fort has seven gates, five of them are in perfect condition. At the entrance there is a solid arch with balconies which can be accessed by steps on both sides. The main gate to the citadel is known as the Akhand Darwaza and has been built with four red stone slabs. There is a temple adjoining the Rajmahal palace and a square pond in front of the temple, towards the west side of the temple is the Rani Mahal.

The majority of the places in the fort are now in ruins, the only maintained structure that can be found here is the mosque as an Urdu school is running here. The museum adjoining the fort has a number of Jain idols which belong to the 10th and 11th centuries. There is a large cannon placed at one of the bastions of the fort.

We @ शिखर वेध, has arranged Range Trek 2 Rohida – Raireshwar – Kenjalgad forts from Pune

.
Hope 2 c u on the event with me 2 Njoy nature …

.
Details as follows:

Brief intro about the forts as follows:

Rohida Fort (3661 feet)…This is very important fort in Bhor area (Pune District) situated on Bhor – Mahabaleshwar mountain range. This fort impressed because of its long natural fortwall and well constructed entrance gate. We need to pass through three gates before we reach to the top of this fort. First Mahadarwaja is circular type, on Second darwaja there is carving of Lion and legendary animal ‘Sharabh’. On third gate there are carved images of Lotus, fish and images of Sun & Moon on upper side.On Fort we can see water tank, Rohideshwar temple, carved caves, ruins of fortifications & old buildings includig grain storage, sadar (main office). There are seven Buruj on Rohida for out of that Fatte Buruj, Waghjai & Shiravle Buruj are well constructed to fight with enemy.

Raireshwar (4589 feet) :- Tableland of Pachgani is very famous but higher and longer tableland is the plateau of Rayari. It is 8 km away from Bhor. It looks beautiful in monsoon. Raireshwar was considered to develop as a hill station & in real sense it is hill station. Raireshwar is historically important, Shivaji Maharaj took the Oath of Swaraj in a temple of Lord Shiva. After this he kept on conquering forts and established Swaraj. This temple is situated rather deep in the interior, hence not seen in first glance. A temple surrounded by hills, surroundings covered by natural beauties. Stone structured temple of the 16th century is the main attraction of Raireshwar.

Kenjalgad ( 4273 feet) is situated on the Mandhardev spur of the Mahadev range eleven miles north-west of Wai. It is a flat-topped hill of an irregular oval shape, about 250 yards long and one hundred yards wide.
