We @ शिखर वेध , have decided to UP the adrenaline dosage by organizing a Trek to Karnala Fort

Here is some info abt the fort:

Height: 1500 feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: Easy
Type: Hill Fort

Karnala fort is a hill fort in Raigad district about 13 km from Panvel. Currently it is a protected place lying within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It was a fort of strategic importance.

Redeemed with the power struggle of many rulers, Karnala Fort stands as a specimen of the 13th century constructions. The fort was sparingly used by the Karnala rulers including Angres, Mudhan and Peshwas until 1818, by which time British rulers have taken over the grand old fort under their control.The Karnala Fort engulf a steep rock in the midst of greenish surroundings and has been a challenge to many adventurous trekkers all through the past and continue to be a great attraction among the fans of trekkers. The fort doorway is adorned with many carvings of elephants and tigers. One can see cute water reservoirs developed naturally in the rocks. The cool surroundings and the beautiful landscapes make this region a place for calm weekends.

Rendezvous: Meet at 07:30 AM (Sharp) at Panvel Railway Station

2) Thane – Panvel Train timings as below

A walk of about 10 minutes will bring us to Panvel ST Depo

07:50 Hrs: Depart from Panvel bus depo to Karnala by ST / tumtum

08:35 Hrs: @ Karnala base

Breakfast – Tea

09:15 Hrs: Trek from Base to Karnala Fort

11:30 Hrs: Atop Karnala Fort

Sight seeing, REST & Lunch Time for 2 Hrs

13:30 Hrs: Descend 2 Base

16:00 Hrs: @ Karnala Base

MOve 2 Panvel By ST / Tum-tum

17:30 Hrs: @ Panvel bus depo

We would be getting back to Dadar at approx 19:30 Hrs (Subjective)

We @ Shikhar Vedh has arranged a Bird watching & photography tour to Bhigwan along-with a short visit to Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Bird’s Paradise of Maharashtra !!!

About the Tour:

Bhigwan is a small dusty town on the border of Pune and Solapur district in Central Maharashtra, in India. Bhigwan is located on the Pune-Solapur Highway. South of Bhigwan town, exists a widespread backwater formed due to a man made dam built on the Bhima river. The dam is called as Ujni dam. The backwaters is spread over a wide region and is mainly a shallow waste water reserve. There are two areas where one can see the migratory water birds. 1) Diksal-Parewadi area and 2) Dalaj – Kumbharwadi area. The semi-waste water in this Ujni dam backwater area has built very good wetland based ecosystem and helped agriculture also. The rainfall in Pune region decides the water level in Ujani dam.

One can expect various types of Ducks, Herons, Egrets, Raptors and Waders along with flocks of hundreds of flamingos. The huge quantity of birds at Bhigwan increases the chance of sighting almost all the prime bird species there and also creates great photographic opportunities for wildlife photographers. The best part of these outings is that we are also including the famous Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in our itinerary. Its a small patch of forest at Supa village, also known as Supa Grasslands and is a great place to observe and photograph the Indian Gazelles.

Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary:

This small wildlife sanctuary is a home to Gazelia bennetti (Chinkara), Hyaena (Hyaena hyaena), Canis lupus (Wolf), Vulpes bengalensis (Indian Fox).

Overnight Journey to Bhigwan – Kumbhargaon

Day 1: Saturday

Early morning reach Bhigwan / Kumbhargaon.

Freshen up & have breakfast.

Explore the location by private boat in order to cover maximum species and also to reach as close to birds as possible.

Have lunch and rest for a while.

Evening again explore the wetland habitat in golden lights considering the sunset.

Dinner & retire for the day

Day 2 : Sunday

Early morning wake up

Post breakfast one more round of exploration by boat

Move to Mayureshwar Wild Life Sanctuary

Around 1 hours of exploration in sanctuary

Lunch en-route

Move to Mumbai

Reach Mumbai by 10 pm
