– A one day WOMEN SPECIAL TREK / TRIP to Korlai Fort on Sunday March 10, 2013

Brief Introduction about Korlai: –
Grade:  Simple
Location: Alibag region

.
Fort Korlai – which is quite beautiful. It is surrounded by sea on three sides. It is not a tall fort. The total height is about 275 m. The most fascinating one is the beach here. The blue ocean on one side and the creek named “Kundalika” on the eastern end create scenery. The fort is situated at the mouth of the creek.
The fort is an Old Portuguese outpost guarding the entrance to the river. A small road leads up to the top of the fort. There is a Lighthouse on the fort and a small climb from behind the lighthouse will take you to the fort. The fort is in ruins, but the view from the lighthouse is beautiful and the rocky beach at Korlai is also good.

Dear All,

We @ शिखर वेध are glad to announce a day BIKE Trek to Ghangad & Telbaila on  Sunday 3 March 2013 … Hope 2 c u there

Details r as follows
Brief Introduction about Ghangad / Telbaila:-

Height: ~ 3000 feet / 3322 feet
Grade:  Easy/Easy

Location: Lonavala Region

Ghangad is situated on western side of Mulshi river, which is called as Kobarse Maval. This fort is surrounded by Korigad, Telbaila and Sudhagad, but still lonely and separated. There is not much documentation explored about history of the fort. Earlier it was with Koli Samant, then with Adilshah and later with Marathas.

Telbaila is basically a watch tower built to guard over the Sahwashni ghat near Pali. It consists of two rock walls , the left and the right clearly differentiated by the col in between. There is a temple of local goddess at the base of the twin wall. There are lot of ancient man made water tank & caves at the base as well as on the climbing routes. Dear All,

The morning of 30th Jan & 1st Feb 2013 the villagers of Velas got precious gift of 2 new born Olive Ridley marine turtles, calling it the beginning of turtle festival 2013. Officially The Turtle Festival 2013 will commence from 9 Feb 2013.
.
So, We @ शिखर वेध has arranged a Tour to Velas Beach specially for the Turtle festival on 23 – 24th February 2013 AND 2 – 3rd March 2013 (Two separate batches) …

Some information about the area: The places that will be visiting are:  1. Velas Beach – Turtle Festival visit   2. Bankot Fort  3. Harihareshwar Temple

Velas Beach : Velas is the birth place of Nana Phadnis, one of the great prominent personalities in Maratha history. Due to the sea-shore Velas is an existing place and it is situated near Bankot Bay. There is an old temple of Shri Bhairi- Rameshwar and in this temple all twelve months water is made available taking the benefit of favorable geographical conditions. A statue of Nana Phadnis is present outside his house. In Velas Mahalakshmi temple and Nana Phadnis house are the places to visit. Gokulashtami Festival is one of the important festival in Velas. Velas is also one of the popular breeding sites of Olive Ridley, which is an endangered species of turtle. The hatchlings are heading towards the sea from the shore now-a-days.

Bankot Fort:
Region: MandangadDistrict: RatnagiriHeight: Sea fort (Slightly above sea level) Difficulty: Simple
Bankot is a square shaped fort. On the sides of Bankot fort, there is a dry moat (Revni) dug out in the Jambhya stone. Jambhya stone is peculiar type of stone adorning a purple shade and peculiarly it is incapable of storing water as the water invariable percolates through it owing to its much porous nature. The main entrance (Mahadarwaja) of the fort is north-facing with a well sculpted arch and carvings. Watch guards dug out (Devdya) align on both sides of the Mahadarwaja with some pits being dug out in the right Devdi. On the left, there are steps leading towards Nagarkhana while there is an underground storey and a tunnel on the right. A Maruti idol in the centre stands deserted now. On the west, there is a small entrance (Darwaja) leading to a Bastion on the exterior of the fortifications. A deep well (now dry and filled) occupied the centre of this bastion earlier and the adjacent water tanks too are dry and obsolete now. One can leave the Buruj via a small exit that leads to the surrounding moat and a beautiful “Revni” lying nearby.
